Our
Chester Farm Horses
Alongside taking
part in showjumping, showhunter and dressage competitions, each
season we also breed a small number of quality Warmblood foals from
our carefully selected mares. With an aim to
produce predominantly jumping horses, we breed with mares and stallions
that first and foremost display excellent temperaments and trainability,
natural scope and athleticism, proven jumping bloodlines and superior
type. It stands to reason that horses with these attributes also
have very good movement and the mechanics and versatility to perform
in other disciplines as well.
We handle our young horses regularly from birth and thoroughly enjoy
establishing their early ground-work training through to bringing
them along under saddle and ready for competition.

"Retrospect
II" (Enzy) is one of the most scopey offspring of Holsteiner
stallion "Ramirez"
(by Ramiro Z) out of a Thoroughbred mare. This gelding was
also bred by Fleur Kern and purchased by Greg as a 5 year
old before pursuing the National Age Group Series as a 6 and
7 year old with great success.
His results include 11 wins in the 6yo series 07/08, 1st Canterbury
Champs 7yo, 2nd South Island 7yo, 3rd North Island 7yo, 4th
7yo HOY 2009 and 4th overall NZ National 7yo 2009 - all at
3* level.
Retrospect II was also placed 4th in the South Island Champs
1* Grand Prix (1.35m - 1.45m) at just his 2nd GP start, 3rd
at Waimate 1* Grand Prix and had clear jumping rounds in both
the North Island Champs 1* Grand Prix and NZ National Champs
1* Grand Prix from just a handful of Grand Prix starts to
date.
He has a huge character and personality with endless enthusiasm
and energy.
With his enormous scope, spring and athleticism, Retrospect
II simply gets better and better as he progresses through
the levels. We hold high hopes for his future.

"Vollrath
Chagall" (Charlie)
is a handsome Warmblood stallion bred by Vollrath Stud and
owned by Phillipa Barriball of Thames.
Bred
from the famous Holsteiner C line by Castello out of an Anamour
/ Distlefink mare, Chagall has a powerful jump with great
technique and an exceptional temperament that makes him an
easy stallion to have around and take out to competitions.
Ridden as a young horse by Phillipa, alongside attending to
private breeding duties, Chagall was lightly competed by Greg
as a 5 year old in showjumping and showhunter where he very
seldom took a rail and earned several placings including 8th=
National 5yo Champs 2009.
Due to Phillipa's personal committments, Chagall was only
brought into regular work during his 6 year old year six weeks
before the March 2010 Horse Of The Year show, where he competed
with great success in his 2 classes, placing 4th in the 1.20m
and then jumped a fantastic double clear in the International
arena to win 8th place out of 60 starters in the 6 Year Old
HOY title class (1.30m).
Chagall is currently in full work with Greg at Chester Farm
and will be competing in the National 7 Year Old showjumping
series this 2011 / 2012 season. We are excited about the year
ahead!

"Hez
Zurich" (Zu) is a magnificent gelding by the Holsteiner
stallion "Ramirez"
(by Ramiro Z) out of Cassie (TB/Warmblood). Zurich was bred
by Fleur Kerns and broken in by Greg as a 3 year old before
he purchased him a year later. Greg has since guided Zurich
through the National Showjumping Age Group Series with much
consistency that saw him finish in the Top 10 overall for
the 5, 6 and 7yo Series.
Winner of 14 classes to date including 4 wins in the 5yo series,
5 wins in the 6yo series and 1st 7yo Canterbury Xmas Cracker
2008.
Other notable placings include 5th
5yo HOY 2007, 6th 6yo HOY 2008, 3rd 6yo Breeders Show Final,
3rd Canterbury 3* 7yo, 4th South Island Champs 3* 7yo, and
4th 1.25m NZ National Championship.
He also competed in his first 1* Grand Prixs (1.35m - 1.45m)
during his 7yo season.
Hez Zurich has outstanding conformation that sees him gain
comments and new admirers at every show he attends. His big
powerful jump and quality ground covering canter have been
handed down from his famous sire line and make showjumping
his real forte.
He has 2 full brothers bred by Astek Stud
and a full sister now continuing on the family line in the
broodmare paddock. (See Astek Gigi and Renaissance II listed
below in Youngstock and Broodmares.)
Zurich
has been retired from competition (for the time being) and
is currently enjoying life "barefoot and naked"
on a large hill block, looking after young horses.

Gianni" (Ali) is by up and coming Hanoverian stallion
"Kinnordy
Gym Bello" (Gymnastik Star / Graf Landau) out of
"Stately Affair".
Gianni is a standout mare in all respects. She is extremely
attractive with an exquisite head, a highly trainable temperament
and natural presence. Her movement holds lovely cadence and
she shows great athleticism, technique and scope for jumping.
Gianni made her competition debut in-hand at the South Island
NZWHA Warmblood Championship Show in November 2006 winning
every class entered and resulting in acheiving Supreme Champion
Led and Supreme Champion Premier Mare/Filly.
At her first ridden competition in November 2008 as a 4 year
old, Gianni gained 2nd place with 63% in her first Prelim
dressage test.
With an excellent foundation laid, Gianni commenced her jumping
career in 2009 where she quickly qualified and competed in
Showhunter at Horse Of The Year show 2010 (which was only
her 5th Showhunter competition).
Highlights from her first jumping season including 1st Open
Amateur High Points and 1st First Year Registered at Wellington
Championships 2* Feb 2010,
3rd Open 1.05m at Horse Of The Year 2010 and was then crowned
"National 5yo Showhunter Champion" at the NZ Young
Horse Showjumping Championships April 2010.
Also won 1st Best Mare 3yo And Over, 2nd Most Suitable For
Dressage, 2nd Most Suitable For Showjumping and 2nd Most Suitable
For Eventing at HOY 2010.
In 2011, Gianni's successful competition season included winning
6yo Showhunter at the National Young Horse Championships and
then finished on another high, winning "Reserve Champion
Amateur Showhunter Of The Year 2011" at Horse Of The
Year show.
Gianni
will be campaining in showhunter again this 2011 / 2012 season
with Diana.

Radiance has very correct, well balanced conformation with
a lovely head. She is very sensible with heaps of character,
straight rhythmical movement and shows great jumping ability
and attitude for jumping which we have always seen to be her
forte!
Radiance is maturing into an extremely classy, eyecatching
type and is going to make a top 5 year old competition prospect
with another year of training and development under her belt.
At her first showjumping competition, the NZ Young Horse Showjumping
Championships April 2010, Radiance entered the 4yo Showjumping
Championship (95cm - 1.10m) where she jumped clear over the
first 2 days rounds, qualifying and going into the final round
on Sunday in first equal place with 0 faults, where she had
just one rail and finished in 8th place out of 35 starters.

Show, she was extremely successful winning Grand Champion
Mare, Best Paced and 3rd overall Grand Champion Sporthorse.
